St. Luke

“St. Luke”
A high relief wood sculpture 12 x 33 x 3″,
by AVonnHartung, commissioned by Father Doug Halsema via Liturgical Consultant Dr. Steven Schloeder
For ambo in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Pensacola, Florida

Biographer and companion of St.Paul, author of Acts of the Apostles, a continuation of his gospel. A gentile from Syria of Greek lineage as indicated by the style of his hair and garments, juxtaposed to the winged ox (symbol of sacrifice and humility) and to the parable of the sower (Lk 8:4-9)

The tempestuous backdrop witnesses to his shipwreck with Paul (Acts 27:13-42) and the many trials and tribulations he experienced struggling to keep pace with Paul on his missionary journeys.
