According to tradition, in 1531 the Blessed Mother appeared twice to Juan Diego, an Aztec convert to Christianity. She instructed him to have a church built in her honor. The bishop demanded a sign before he would approve construction of a church. Mary appeared a second time to Juan Diego and ordered him to collect roses and in a second audience with the bishop, Juan Diego opened his cloak, letting dozens of roses fall to the floor, revealing the image of Mary imprinted on the inside of the cloak.Read in Spanish

Según la tradición, en 1531 la Santísima Madre se le apareció dos veces a Juan Diego, un converso azteca al cristianismo. Ella le indicó que construyera una iglesia en su honor. Pero el obispo exigió una señal antes de que pudiera aprobar la construcción de una iglesia. Mary se apareció por segunda vez a Juan Diego y le ordenó que recogiera rosas y, en una segunda audiencia con el obispo, Juan Diego abrió su capa, dejando caer docenas de rosas al suelo, revelando la imagen de Mary impresa en el interior de la capa.
